The Puza Bar
Puza is a Xhosa word meaning “drink” and relates to the traditional concept of the watering hole as a geologic depression where animals come to drink. Of course, today we know the “watering hole” as a social gathering space – so it’s fitting that our Puza bar is located directly below the Boma dining room.
Beverage Manager Ben Preston has created a drinks menu for the Puza bar that beautifully complements the premium steak and food on offer. Just like the space itself, the wine list is warm and inviting, elegant but not pretentious, and easy to navigate through 130+ bottle and by-the-glass selections.
Also on offer at the Puza bar is a curated selection of classic cocktails and modern creations, as well as whiskey flights showcasing distilleries from the Highlands to the flats of Tennessee.
The roots of the word “Boma” date back to pre-colonial Africa and lie in the languages spoken in the African Great Lakes. It was originally used to describe an enclosure for livestock or a place for safety and gathering. It was mostly built from branches and twigs and would often have an open fire in the middle for warmth, cooking, dancing and storytelling.
At The Meat & Wine Co Chadstone, we’ve reimagined the traditional Boma as a modern dining space with a layered series of circular seated areas featuring accents of woven leather and tonal décor.
