5 cocktail bars in Sydney perfect for a girls’ night out

Shania Twain said it best when she said “The best thing about being a woman is the prerogative to have a little fun”… and when the mood strikes, the only reasonable thing to do is round up the ladies for a cocktail or five.

But with so many cocktail bars in Sydney to choose from, figuring out where to drink in Sydney is no easy feat. That’s why, in the name of fun, we’ve hunted down some of the best bars in Sydney for the ultimate girls’ night out.

The Botanist, Kirribilli

Tucked away on leafy Willoughby St in Kirribilli (just across the street from Milsons Point station), The Botanist lives up to its name with luscious plants aplenty, lots of wood features and a good dose of Victorian-style charm. On the cocktail menu, you’ll find a botanical-inspired selection of drinks focusing on herbs, fruit and liquors. The Wild Thing is a standout, made with Regal Rogue Wild Rosé Vermouth, lychee, lemon, Peychaud’s bitters and uncultured pet nat. There’s also a rotating selection of cocktail jugs on offer, designed to share alongside a selection of seasonal light bites and bar fare.

Earl’s Juke Joint, Newtown

You’d be forgiven for walking right past this Newtown hotspot without even noticing it, because from the outside it looks exactly like Betta Meats, the butcher it took over in 2013. Behind the unsuspecting façade, however, you’ll find a lively cocktail bar that harks back to the classic juke joints of the Deep South: think a tin-covered ceiling for acoustics, walls adorned with posters of blues legends and Art Deco-style lamps to set the mood.

The menu is packed full of delicious cocktails (and beer, if that’s your thing), as well charcuterie platters thanks to neighbouring tapas restaurant Bloodwood.

Palmer & Co, Sydney

Hidden away on Abercrombie Lane is Palmer & Co, an underground prohibition-style bar inspired by a time when booze was banned but secretly free-flowing. The staff are as good at whipping up cocktails as they are impeccably dressed, and there’s plenty on the menu to tempt even the most refined of palates. Try a Tahitian Rum Punch, which is Palmer spiced rum, Appleton Jamaican rum, Tempus Fugit Creme de Banane, Cape Mentelle Sauvignon Blanc, citrus, brown sugar and pineapple. Yum.

Sweethearts Rooftop, Potts Point

When it comes to rooftop bars in Sydney, Sweethearts Rooftop is up there with the best. This bright and bustling open-air bar combines colourful murals with Mexican tapas and a lush tequila menu (hello margaritas!), and it’s even got a comfy little siesta zone. The tacos are the real deal, and the cocktail jugs and slushies are the perfect accompaniment to a girls’ night out.

The Meat & Wine Co (that’s us!)

A Sydney cocktail bar list wouldn’t be complete without a mention of The Meat & Wine Co (even if we do say so ourselves!). At each of our three Sydney locations in Sydney CBD, Barangaroo, Bella Vista and Parramatta, you’ll find an extensive cocktail menu with innovative twists on classics like margaritas, mojitos and martinis, as well as a selection of original creations. Try the Raspberry Beret with Cinzano 1757 Bianco vermouth, Bulldog gin, lemon juice, sugar and raspberries, or pop in during Happy Hour for a refreshing Rose and Lychee Spritz at just $8.
